‘scanning’ with a webcam

I started preliminary work on a possible thesis idea that involves the confusion of image data. The image above is a test image from the openFrameworks program that I wrote that slowly creates an image out of horizontal lines of pixels taken over a period of time from my iSight. The effect is that of sticking your head in the xerox machine, it’s a lot of fun. I can’t wait try it outside.

The code isn’t worth releasing yet, but if you want to play with it you can download it here (2.5mb – OSX only, possibly 10.5 only).

    i tried to do a similar project with a scanner once. i never got it going as well as this guy: http://golembewski.awardspace.com/index.html

    i’d like to see how yours captures movement.

  2. wow, those real scans are truly amazing. I need to do some tweaks to get some good scans from movement — as you can see in the last image that the scans are so slow that most everything appears as a blurred line
